The theft of cables in Spain interrupts train travel for thousands, say officials

A “serious act of sabotage” interrupted the high -speed railway lines of Spain, said the country of transport minister on Sunday, hitting thousands of travelers while transit operators worked to restore the normal service.

The interruption was caused by theft of cable parts on the line between Madrid and Seville, said Oscar Puente, Minister of Transport. “These accidents are very serious,” he said in a post on social media, adding that the Spanish national police forces were investigating.

The thefts of cables were not the only reason for the widespread interruptions, which hit more than 10,000 passengers, Álvaro Fernández Heredia, president of the National Rail Company of Spain, wrote in a place on X.

He also blamed a technical problem: after the thefts, a train also “took, dragging the elevated power line,” he wrote in Spanish.

It is the last serious interruption for Spain, which last week is still in the interruption phase of the inexplicable electricity.

On Monday morning, Mr. Puente declared in an X post, that the high -speed railway service had been restored 70 percent of his normal service and which should be returned to normal in the afternoon.
