Openi said last Wednesday that he had hired Fidji Simo, CEO of Instacart, to take on a new role that manages the teams of activities and operations of the artificial intelligence company.
In a blog post, Sam Altman, CEO of Openai, said he would remain responsible as head of the company. But the appointment of Mrs. Simo as CEO of applications would have freed him to concentrate on other parts of the organization, including research, computer and security systems, he said.
“We have become a global product company that serves hundreds of millions of users all over the world and growing very quickly,” Altman said in the blog post. He added that Openai had also become a “infrastructure company” which provided artificial intelligence tools on a large scale.
“Each of these is a huge effort that could be its great company,” he wrote. “Bringing exceptional leaders is a fundamental part of doing it well.”
Mrs. Simo, a member of the board of directors of Openi, will supervise sales, marketing and finance. He will report to Mr. Altman.
Openi, who turned on a frenzy up to Ai with his chatgpt chatbot, has grown rapidly and has juggled more initiatives, sometimes without success. The San Francisco company has constantly released new models and products AI, including systems that can “think”. In March, he completed a fundraising agreement of $ 40 billion, led by the Japanese conglomerate Softbank, which evaluated him at $ 300 billion and made him one of the most precious private companies in the world.
But Openi, who was established as a non -profit organization, fought to adopt a new corporate structure. As the commercial charm of artificial intelligence has grown, the company had tried to remove from the control by the non -profit. This attracted control by critics such as Elon Musk, a founder of Openi who sued the company and accused of having profitable in front of the safety of artificial intelligence. General lawyers of California and Delaware also examined the renovation.
On Monday, Openii took a step back on the floor and said he would allow the non -profit to keep his grip on society.
(The New York Times sued Openi and his partner, Microsoft, accusing them of copyright violation regarding the contents of news relating to artificial intelligence systems. Openai and Microsoft have denied these statements.)
In a statement last Wednesday, Mrs. Simo said that Openi “has the potential to accelerate human potential at a rhythm never seen before and are deeply busy modeling these applications towards the public good”.
He added in a reminder of the Instacart employees who had a “passion for the IA and in particular for the potential that diseases must treat” and that “the ability to conduct such an important part of our collective future was a difficult opportunity to let ourselves fall”.
Mrs. Simo will remain at Instacart for the next few months since the company appoints a successor, a role she said would have been played by a member of the Instacart management team. It will also remain on the company's Board of Directors as President.
“Today's announcement is not a reflection of any changes in our business or operations,” Instacart said in a note.
